Gaining steadfast traction as Klang Valley’s most promising lifestyle hub, The Gasket Alley adds another celebratory entry into its portfolio: the Ram Jam Festival. Set to take place on 15 July 2018 from 3:30PM, the one-of-a-kind event will serve as a platform uniting local talents in music, fashion, art, photography, and the automotive sector.
Operating on the concept of ‘vintage carnival’, the premise of Ram Jam is entirely nostalgic, which naturally corresponds to The Gasket Alley’s own vintage industrial ethos. Tirelessly overseeing all aspects of the festival’s installation, the team at The Gasket Alley foresees an estimated attendance of 8,000 visitors from across the nation.
Enticing activities in Ram Jam’s itinerary include artsy exhibitions, skate jam sessions, and live music performances, among many others. The action-packed day will conclude in a live screening of the final FIFA World Cup 2018. Below are more details to the festival.
PRIME BEAUTY
The list of highlights that Ram Jam has to offer runs miles long. An exciting cornerstone is Miss Bombshell 2018, the first ever pin-up girl contest brought to fruition by Malaysia’s own pin-up visionary Lee Ming. The contest is inspired by the popular pin-up culture of beautifully photographed women that had inspired soldiers and teenagers back in the 40s, 50s and 60s. Participants stand a chance to win a Grand Prize of RM 8000, so be sure to register at https://bit.ly/2HzsBG3. Registration concludes on 20 June 2018, and casting takes place on 23 June 2018.
HANDSOME MACHINES
The breath-taking beauty of each pin-up contest participant will no doubt be complemented by the masculine sight of rare machines parked at Ram Jam. Visitors can stop in between activities to marvel not only over iconic motorcycles but also a collection of American classic cars and trucks, all showcased as part of the festival’s visual attraction.
MUSIC FOR THE SOUL
A celebration of nostalgia is not complete without some live music performances curated by SIFTERS Asia. Find yourself moved by local music talents specialising in various genres, including rock, blues, and hip-hop. The diverse selection of serenade materials finds its roots in the counterculture movement inspiring the SIFTERS’ own ethos. In other words: no trace of radio-friendly pop music will be found at the festival.
ARTISTIC EXHIBITIONS
Lining up the Ram Jam premise are exhibitions that are sure to induce awe. Visitors will get to see Bee’s Knees Bobber, a photography exhibition unveiling the works of Brian Ong. When not running his apparel brand Mutha Puaka, he moonlights as a photographer to capture his love for the custom bike culture. Brian and his partners at Mutha Puaka will also extend their creative visions through another exhibition at Ram Jam. Titled ‘Denim Vests Art’, the Mutha Puaka-focused live exhibition will witness and showcase the prowess of 10 artists as they each produce their best denim art.
Another artistic hallmark of the festival is Museumoto. Curated by The Gasket Alley’s own Tiga Moto, the exhibition will feature some of the most iconic motorcycle models from several eras, ranging from the 50s right to the present.
CUSTOMISABLE GOODS
Visitors can seek some inspiration and even get customised service from DIRT ARMY, a premium sneakers care centre. Expect to interact with highly trained, experienced professionals with a love for transforming old shoes into renewed kicks. The brand also cleans, restores, and customises other articles such as caps and bags.
Get hands-on at the sneaker workshop and showcase painting on sneakers, caps and bags. Brought to you by House of VANS, the workshop features in-house artist ZUL as well as special guest artist and a well-known name in sneaker customisation – SBTG aka Mark Ong – who hails from Singapore.
Motorcycle enthusiasts looking to flex their individuality, meanwhile, can enlist the help of local helmet brand SUZZY to spruce their gear up. Seeing that the brand is best known for their one-of-a-kind helmet moulds, aspiring bikes can expect to customise their helmets from scratch.
MEMORIALISE YOUR LIFE
Personalise your best and most memorable takeaways with the Electric Dreams Tattoo Collective. If you think memories look better on your skin, then just check out their tattoo parlour available during the entire festival. Led by ink maestros Simon David and Gary Jones, the team will assist in consulting you and designing your dream tattoo. Alternatively, ink your memories on leather for a memento just as everlasting.
