Showers, not only we use it to get clean, it’s also a place where we’ll get ‘A-HA!’ moments, and karaoke our stress away. But sometimes, we unconsciously commit some beauty mistakes that could harm our skin instead. Ever felt that your skin is drier than usual after your shower? Maybe you have committed some of these 7 beauty mistakes.
1. Using too much product and not rinsing it off completely
Too much bubbles is not exactly a good thing in this case because it strips your skin’s natural oils which not only makes your whole body itchy, the dryness can also aggravate skin problems such as eczema. You should rinse off your shampoo and shower gel properly too because leftover product can irritate your skin and clog your pores which could lead to acne.
2. Exfoliating everyday
Exfoliating is not a bad thing if it’s done at a max of twice a week in alternate days. Too often we think scrubbing will make our skin cleaner so we scrub harder but over-exfoliating can lead to dryness and skin inflammations.
3. Rough towel drying
Always wondered why your hair is extra frizzy and tangled after towel drying? Maybe you’ve been a little rough with the towel. Just pat the towel on your hair instead of rubbing it together which creates more static and could lead to breakage too. As for your body and face, leaving a bit of moisture on your skin after patting with a towel will help to lock in the moisture and the beauty products you’ll be applying.
4. Washing your hair every day
We know it’s difficult to not wash your hair on a daily basis with the humid weather here. But if you have been battling with dry, itchy scalp, it could be from your frequent shampooing. Try to shampoo on alternate days to give your scalp a chance to maintain its natural oil production to balance the moisture.
5. Taking long, hot showers
A long, hot shower might feel really good at the end of the day but did you know that you’re stripping your skin’s natural oils away and can make skin problem’s such as eczema and dry skin worse. Go for lukewarm to warm temperature showers and try to keep it short.
6. Not replacing your loofahs or sponges
You should throw out your loofahs or sponges after 4 weeks or if there are signs of mold growing on it. If you don’t clean and dry your loofahs and sponges thoroughly, the moisture left in them will become a breeding ground for bacteria and mold. You wouldn’t want to rub molds and bacteria on your body.
7. Not removing your makeup before your shower
Sometimes we just want to get into bed stat and we figured our face cleanser would do the trick. But we forget that those waterproof mascaras and eyeliners won’t come off so easily so either way, you have to remove it again after your shower. Make makeup removing a habit before you get into the shower to save time on your beauty routine.
