Hair, Makeup & Nail Trends Autumn/Winter 2015: Beauty & the Beast

From gothic makeup to prim and proper hair, is the autumn/winter guide to the biggest beauty trends.

From ghostly get-ups to Park Avenue princesses, here is the low-down on the biggest trends in hair, make-up and nails this autumn.

MAKE-UP: GOTHIC DRAMA

Gothic isn’t generally a beauty trend greeted with much enthusiasm; decades of ghostly pale skin teamed with overdone, smoky eyes often mean the look is best left to Hallowe’en. But it’s high time to leave ghoulish notions behind and embrace the dark side for autumn.

In London, Giles (pictured above) showed one of the more extreme takes on this look with glossy lips created using an ebony eye pencil mixed with black and burgundy lip colour. In a more  subdued take on the trend even Oscar de la Renta’s Park Avenue princesses got in on the act with a thick slick of black eyeliner across lids.

Prada 2015 hair by RedkenHAIR: PRIM AND PROPER

Brush out those beachy waves and artfully tousled updos: after a season characterised by undone hair, prepare for barnets to get a whole lot more groomed. Autumn sees the arrival of a new, decidedly ladylike woman – one who sartorially has everything pulled together; by no means least, her hair.

“This season, we’re seeing a more ‘done’ approach to hair,” explains Guido, Redken’s global creative director. Chief among the styles was the hair Guido created for Prada – a pinned-up high-ponytail look: “There’s always an offness to the classic  beauty of Prada, and that’s the feeling that we achieved with this style.”

Burberry autumn winter 2015 nailsNAILS: FIFTY SHADES OF GREIGE

Unlike last season, when barely there hues of nude dominated trends, for autumn,

prepare to embrace your inner moody teenager with grungy shades setting the scene. For  Burberry Prorsum, murky green colours take inspiration from the brand’s catwalk collection, while Châtaigne, a dark chocolate brown  by Chanel, is set to be a sell-out success.

For a softer approach to the grunge palette, greige has been a buzz word in the world of  fashion, beauty and interiors; technically it’s a mix of grey and beige. If that sounds like something you can get on board with, Bobbi Brown has not only nail polishes, but an entire cosmetic collection dedicated to the shade.
