Due to the nature of our country’s weather, we are able to participate in outdoor activities almost all year long. Even if we are not doing any outdoor activities, we are constantly exposed to the sun during the day time.
Many people love soaking under the sun to achieve that healthy looking sun-kissed glow. However, in the long run, too much sun expose can cause wrinkles and age spots on our faces, and worst of all, skin cancer.
Fret not, you can still enjoy the warmth from the sunray without having to wrap up like a mummy to protect yourself. Here are the five ways to protect yourself from the sun.
1. Always wear sunscreen
Many people tend to underestimate the power of sunscreen, or rather neglecting this important skincare product because it makes them feel oily or sticky. Remember, the key to stay safe under the sun is to use sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15.
2. After applying sunscreen, wait for at least 30 minutes before going outside
Sunscreens should be applied 30 minutes before sun exposure to allow the UV filters to be fully absorbed by the body and eventually form a protective layer.
3. Be generous in application of sunscreen
Remember to put sunscreen all over your body, this includes some places you might not think of, such as the tops of your ears, the back of your neck, the part in your hair, your face, and the tops of your feet.
4. Take frequent breaks from the sun by going indoors
If possible, try to seek shade especially from 10 am to 4 pm when the sun’s rays are strongest.
5. Wear protective clothing, like hats, sunglasses, long-sleeved shirts and pants
Be sure to wear a good pair of sunglasses that says could block UV rays to protect your eyes from sunburn. Also, remember to wear gloves/sun sleeves to cover your arm up when driving.
