Sometimes we don’t realise how a little tweak to the way we apply our makeup can make a big difference, but we’re here to tell you that it can. Many of these are simple mistakes that we don’t realise we’re doing in our beauty routine. How many of these are on your list? Or have you acing makeup application like a beauty expert?
Clean those brushes
Nobody likes cleaning up, but this is so important because we want to make sure our brushes are free of built-up dirt and grime that would cause our skin to breakout. I learnt this neat little trick from a beauty specialist once – just apply some shampoo into the palm of your hand, and swivel your brushes around until you see all the makeup residue wash off from the brush. It will turn your shampoo brown, pink, and whatever colours are on your brush, then leave it to dry.
Test foundation on your bottom jawline, not the back of your hand
We’re all guilty of this and in fact we’ve done a write-up to help you find the right makeup product for you. If you haven’t read the article, check it out here: The Do-Not’s of Applying Foundation
Don’t sleep in your makeup
Did you know clogged pores stretches over time, and enlarged pores make your skin look aged? This is why it’s so important to clean your face and get rid of the makeup before you hit the sack. Sorabee’s Balancing Cleasing Lotion is a great and easy way to wipe off all your makeup, read more about it here.
Apply concealer in an upside-down triangle below your eye
I’m sure many of us apply concealer to only the dark circles under our eyes, I still do that till today because I forget to expand the application area to the upside-down triangle. Check out Beauty Tips for Those Dreaded Dark Circles for more tips.
Fill out your lips with lip liner or skip it entirely
The best way to apply lip liner is to blend it downwards from the edges of your lip so you fill in your lips. Rather than just an outline around the edges. If you’re still doing that, it’s a very outdated look and you’ll be left with a rim of lip liner. Lipstick will last longer when your lips are filled with liner, not just at the edges.
Don’t curl your lashes with mascara on
This causes damage to your lashes and also you’ll probably create dents in your lashes rather than natural looking curls.

Apply your blush along your cheekbones
Don’t just apply blush on the apples of your cheek. Hopefully this isn’t what you’ve been doing. Smile, then apply blush along your cheekbone all the way up to your temples. Make sure the colour is blended before you leave the house.
Don’t keep makeup for too long
It’s unhygienic and can do more harm, than good. If you still have makeup from 5 years ago, it’s time to chuck it out. Makeup can expire within a few months to less than two years.
