Don’t you just love lipstick and the different shades it comes in? So which team are you – team nude or team red or both?
There has been some debate recently about which shade is the “better” shade, personally I like them both for different occasions and different looks. But some are clearly in one or the other teams.
Which Shade is Your Favourite Go-To Lippie?
Team Nude
Pros:
- As long as you pick the right shade of nude for your skin tone, this can give you a very natural look which enhances your natural beauty. It’s subtle but impactful.
- A classic timeless colour perfect for those who prefer to stay away from buying shades to follow a trend. How can you possibly go wrong with nude?
- Achieves a balanced look when your eye make-up is heavy. Do you love the smokey eye effect? Do you use deep shades of eyeshadow? Pair it with a nude lip colour to make your eyes stand out, and make-up won’t look over the top.
- Best tip: outline your lips with a nude lip colour to achieve that overall nude lip without having an obvious darker outline. It helps your lippie stay on longer and makes your lips look fuller! WIN.
Cons:
- If you choose the wrong shade, nude lipstick can make you look washed-out, pale, or even a little sick.
- Why pay for a lip colour that you could achieve naturally with some lip balm?
- Lacks colour, so if you’re looking for lipstick to brighten you up or add a bit of a dramatic effect to your look – this isn’t for you.
- If you’re naturally pale, you may want to consider Team Red; nude will just wear you out even more and defeats the purpose of even putting any lipstick on.
Team Red
Pros:
- Red lips can add a bit of edginess to your look. Rather than just being a shade that is overly classic and feminine, it can be a shade that gives you the “I’m strong and confident” look.
- Automatically updates your outfit to appear more chic and trendy. Give it a try, throw on an outfit you’ve had for ages and have been contemplating tossing out. Put on a bold, red lip colour and voila – tres chic.
- Comes in various shades for a different look – use brighter shades for day-use and darker hues for a dramatic night look.
Cons:
- This is not a colour for the subtle, so if you’re not into having your make-up stand out, this isn’t the right colour for you.
- Smudgy red lips = not cool. You don’t want to end up having patches of red around your mouth, the joker effect looks great if you’re a little nuts. Be sure to apply foundation and a lip liner to keep your red colour staying put.
- You run the risk of looking a little clown-esque if you pair the wrong shade of red with bold eyes. Make sure you know what you’re doing, else stick to nudes when applying heavy eye make-up.
