We are fans of the Beauty Blender and just in case you missed our earlier article on this beautiful egg-shaped sponge and the wonders it does to blending makeup – read it here: 5 Tips to Get Flawless Skin with the Beauty Blender.
I’m a noob at it (a newbie) and right around the time I wrote that article, was when I had my first experience with the Beauty Blender. Recently, I had to give it a proper wash but the money-saving side of me wasn’t prepared to spend on purchasing a wash specifically for the Beauty Blender. I thought, there has to be ways to wash this – it’s just like washing a make-up brush, is it not?
Be sure to wash your sponge regularly, we’re applying that to our face many times a week and you want to be sure you aren’t giving bacteria and germs an avenue to seep into your pores and eventually cause you breakouts.
A troll through the interest has unveiled a few great DIY tips to washing the Beauty Blender and I thought I’ll share them with you. I’ve tried all of them and they work – though I can’t be sure if this does any product damage or if it will in long-term cause the deterioration of the Beauty Blender. But if you’re like me, and you’re pretty sure baby soap can’t do THAT much harm, then read on.
Option 1: Wash with baby washing soap
If you have nieces/nephews/kids of your own, then you would most definitely have baby wash at your easy disposal. Johnson’s has a whole range of them if you need to buy one. I do this over the sink and spend a couple of minutes at this – it may take a bit of patience but if you find joy in seeing makeup wash off your sponge, then you’ll love this.
At the sink, saturate your sponge with water and give it a couple of wrings to remove whatever excess product you might have. Apply the baby wash onto your palm OR the areas that are most stained with makeup product (not all over) and rub the sponge in a circular motion around the palm of your hand, apply more water if you need to. You’ll notice your foundation basically seeping out of the sponge and onto your palm, keep doing this until you no longer see any foundation oozing out. You can then do a quick wash around the whole sponge just to make sure there isn’t any more grime, rinse and wring. Leave to dry.

Option 2: Let it soak overnight
This nifty little trick is great if you think you have hard to remove stains. It also works best if you don’t have the patience to work at your sponge over the sink. Leave it overnight just before bed, and by the time you’re up, the beauty blender should be ready!
How? Just get a mug, add some water in it, add baby wash soap (or any other soap you think will work), leave your Beauty Blender in there and let the soap work into the sponge and slowly clean out whatever residue is in there. The next morning, rinse and wring your sponge as much as you need to until you no longer see any makeup residue coming out of it.

Option 3: Extra Virgin Olive Oil and baby wash/soap
I know. EVO for a makeup product? Say what? Those were my thoughts too, but after watching the YouTube video – it works!
Mix an equal amount of your soap with your olive oil in a little bowl, soak your Beauty Blender and rinse it in water. Dip the Beauty Blender into the little wash you’ve just created with EVO and soap and gently massage your Beauty Blender until you notice the makeup start to fall off the sponge. It won’t take long for that to happen. Once you’re satisfied with how clean it is, rinse and wring.
