Cosmetics has since existed as early as 4000 B.C. where Egyptians used natural resources such as kohl, malachite powder, ocher, berries, beeswax, henna and bugs to produce makeup products. Fast forward to today, cosmetics have advanced into an entire beauty industry, valued at $532 billion in 2019, according to retail analytic firm Edited. The industry is said to be on an upward trajectory, fueled by the rising number of beauty tutorials and reviews of cosmetic products on social media channels by brand ambassadors and influencers.
Elizabeth Arden – Pioneer in Modern Beauty Industry
Among the brands that contribute to the rise of the industry is none other than Elizabeth Arden, who shaped the modern cosmetics industry to what it is today. Florence Nightingale Graham who was later known as Elizabeth Arden, was born in Canada on 31 December 1884. She opened the iconic Red Door Salon on Fifth Avenue, New York in 1910 – the first to offer in-store makeovers for women. In the years that followed, Elizabeth Arden went on to open more than 100 salons worldwide, and by 1966, it was boasting approximately 300 cosmetic products under its line of business.
Arden was the epitome of her brand, with the intention to empower women to be the best version of themselves. She carried timeless beauty with her everywhere she went, and withheld her age until her passing, to show what her products can do.

This year marks the 110th year since its establishment, and to continue spreading the spirit of women empowerment, Elizabeth Arden is joining hands with Malaysia’s no.1 e-commerce platform, Shopee.
