We’re kicking off this week with K-Beauty aka Korean Beauty, and the following two weeks will be on J-Beauty (Japan), and ending with W-beauty (Western). Time to expand your beauty wisdom with us at Pamper.My.
K-Beauty. It has taken over the world by storm and everyone is either in or wants in on the sought-after tips, products, and trends in the K-Beauty world.
Whether you’re influenced by your favourite K-dramas or K-pop, you can’t deny that both the men and women have beautiful skin! And it all boils down to the people obsession with having healthy, glowing skin so they don’t have to use a lot of makeup to let their natural skin shine. This has then turned into a lifestyle that the locals and celebrities swears by.
One of the most popular K-Beauty trend that you have to know about is the 10-Step Korean Skincare Routine! 10 steps sounds like a lot and it can be confusing for newbies to K-beauty so we’ll break it down and just so you know, you don’t have to follow all 10 steps if you can’t. Adjust accordingly to what’s good for your skin and lifestyle, we’re all on our own personal beauty journey.
1. Makeup Remover
The most important, cannot-be-missed step is removing all of your makeup at the end of the day. Doesn’t matter if you’re just wearing sunblock only or no-makeup, your skin is still covered with dirt and product, you need to make sure it’s all off. From balm, oil, to water-based makeup removers, these are still best used with dry hands and skin to make it easier to lift it off your skin.
2. Cleanser
All K-beauty skincare routine starts with makeup remover then finishing the cleansing step with another cleanser, hence it’s called double cleansing. This time, you go for water or gel-based cleansers that foams up to clear up the makeup remover residues.
3. Exfoliator
It’s said that we should exfoliate at least twice a week to slough off the dead skin cells to smooth out our skin and helps our skincare products absorb better. But if you have sensitive skin, once a week with a gentle exfoliator is good. Try to avoid scrubs with micro beads or that feels very rough and rub gently to avoid damaging your skin. You could try peeling gels which is one of the staples in K-beauty.
4. Toner
Once, the cleansing portion of your routine is done, apply a toner on your skin while it’s still damp to help it absorb better into your skin to rehydrate it! Toners helps to balance your skin’s pH levels and damps it for the following step. If you feel that you want to make sure all traces of dirt are gone, you can use a cotton to gently swipe your skin. Personally, we prefer to pat it on our skin!
5. Essence
The most important product in a K-beauty skincare routine, this is one of the products you should invest in because this is provides most of the nutrients to your skin. If you need to cut down your routine, you can pat this on instead of toner after double-cleansing.
6. Treatments
This is an extra but optional step if you need to treat other skin concerns that you have. Choose from boosters, serums, and ampoules, these concentrated essences go on top of your essence to bring more nourishment and treatment to your skin. These would be better for nighttime use unless you have really dry skin, you can use these for day time too.
7. Sheet Masks
Whether you use them everyday or just a few times a week, sheet masks are another staple to the K-beauty skincare routine! From budget-friendly options to the luxurious, these are a great treat after a long day! With so many varieties to choose from, you will definitely find some perfect ones for your skin.
8. Eye Cream/Gel
We find this is a very important step that a lot of people will tend to forgo since some might apply their face products on the same area too but that’s not the way! The skin around your eyes needs a specific product to suit the thin and delicate texture so an eye cream or gel is essential! Keep your eyes bright and bags-free by gently patting (no rubbing!) a hydrating eye treatment around the entire eye area, avoiding the water line.
9. Moisturizer
After all your hardwork of layering the essences, seal it all in with a moisturizer! Glass skin is nothing without its generous application of a hydrating moisturizer whether its in a form of an emulsion, lotion, gel, or cream. Depending on your skin type and time of the day, lightweight moisturizers such as emulsions and gels would be better for day time and combination skin while lotions and creams are for night time and dry skin folks.
10. Sun Protection
How do the Koreans keep their skin fair even when they’re under the Sun? They’re really generous with their sunblock and sunscreens application! It’s the last step for your daytime skincare routine that you can’t miss to protect your skin from premature aging and harmful UV rays! You should apply it even when you’re indoors to protect your skin from blue light and UV rays from your surrounding electronic appliances. Remember to reapply throughout the day too.
