#QuickChatwithPamper: Clarins New Double Serum With Scientific Communication Director and Spokesperson of Clarins, Marie-Hélène Lair

With the recent launch of Clarin’s new Double Serum, we had a chance to speak to Scientific Communication Director and Spokesperson of Clarins, Marie-Hélène Lair who’s a Doctor of Pharmacy and cosmetics expert with more than 20 years of being in the beauty industry with previous stints in Chanel, Johnson & Johnson before joining the Clarins family in 2015.

Putting scientific jargon in the back seat, Marie shares her abundant knowledge of plant sciences and the uniqueness of the Double Serum with us.

1. How did you discover Turmeric as the star ingredient for the new Double Serum?

We decided to head to Tamil Nadu, India which is where we sourced the turmeric for the Double Serum. We saw that the locals use turmeric powder as an offering to the gods, turmeric paste as an Ayurvedic treatment for skin diseases, burning turmeric root to clear the sinuses, which is why we are inspired by the versatility and natural plant powers of tumeric which has no side-effects. We extract the tumerones from the turmeric and it’s distilled until we only have the active molecules which are then included in our Double Serum, it’s also the first time in the world to be used in skincare. But like all our products when we use a new plant ingredient that is not registered in the system, it goes through a series of test to check its safety and efficacy. Hence, it takes a long time for us to create a new product.

2. Can the Double Serum be mixed with other products?

Our advice is to follow the skincare step first, with the cleanser, toner, serum then the cream. But if you’re using more than 1 serum in your skincare routine, it’s best to put the Double Serum first then followed by the other serums as it helps with the absorption of the following skincare. It’s safe to be used around the eye area too so you can apply the Double Serum before putting on your eye cream.

3. What makes the Double Serum stand out from the beauty market?

I compare this product with the Swiss Army Knife because you can use the product in multiple ways and it’s a perfect blend of scientific innovation and packaging innovation. This product is suitable for all skin types, even for the most sensitive skin which is why you can use it on your eye area, and it doesn’t have an age limit too so your mother or your grandmother can use it too. It’s not solely as an anti-aging product because let’s be honest, you can’t erase the signs of aging but you can protect your skin’s texture and aid your skin’s health as time passes. Plus, the packaging is 2 bottles in 1 and comes with a unique pump that dispenses 2 types of dosages which you can decide according to your skin and season.

4. Will there be new products that follow the double-formula concept?

We are thinking about it but at the moment, the Double Serum is the only product.

5. What are your 3 must-have products from Clarins for someone who’s new to the brand?

To have healthy and beautiful skin, it’s important to have a cleanser which you can choose to be used with water or without, moisturizers enriched with anti-aging molecules and sun protectors which SPF50 because in your country you need more than SPF15 to protect your skin from the strong UV rays. If I can choose one more, it will be the Double Serum.
