Sick of the same old salads?

While salad is one of the fastest ways to get as many vegetable servings, they can also become boring rather quickly. However, if you could do a little bit of planning, it is easy to spice up your salad so that they could be a sustainable part of your diet.

Last week we had a little chat with Dee Dee, the professional chef of LifeJuice Salad Bar to share with us some tips to jazz up your salad, along with flavour combinations.

1. Savour the flavour

Enhancing your salad through spices and condiments is key to enjoying a delicious bowl of salad. Small additions such as pink sea salt, freshly cracked pepper, Italian seasoning can take a salad from drab to fab.

2. Mix it up with different kinds of fresh vegetables and fruits

If you talk about salad to anyone, chances are they will imagine a huge bowl of green. And that is really boring. Choose vegetables and fruits from across the colour spectrum, such as beets, berries, orange or yellow pepper, dragon fruit, and olives. Not only will all those colours make a glorious looking salad, they also provide a lot of nutrients on your plate.

3. Get creative with your dressings

Some of the most commonly used salad dressings are ranch, balsamic vinaigrette, thousand island etc. It is certainly alright to stick with what you know, however an interesting dressing can take your salad to the next level. Try to get creative with your dressing by mixing them up. Or, like what Dee Dee suggests, try making your own sesame ginger dressing with fresh ginger, lite soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame seeds and sesame oil.
