Love that spaghetti? Go for it.
Thanks to a new study from the Neuromed Institute in Italy, researchers have found that pasta can actually help you lose weight.
The research, published in the journal Nutrition and Diabetes, examined over 23,000 people. It was discovered that those who enjoyed pasta as part of a regular Mediterranean diet (that is, pairing pasta with fresh vegetables like tomatoes and onions, legumes, seafood, and olive oil) had a lower body mass index or BMI, and those that eat noodles are less likely to be overweight or obese.
The passage below is an excerpt from the study.
“We have seen that consumption of pasta, contrary to what many think, is not associated with an increase in body weight, rather the opposite. Our data show that enjoying pasta according to individuals’ needs contributes to a healthy body mass index, lower waist circumference and better waist-hip ratio.”
This is probably one of the greatest news for every pasta lover. However, always remember that you should still keep the portions small as overdoing it can still lead to weight gain. Moderation is key.
