Have you ever felt like continue sleeping after waking up at six in the morning although you just had seven to eight hours of sleep? Perhaps it is because you are a woman.
Before we move on, I want to make things clear and say; women needing more sleep has nothing to do with me being a sexist, which I am not. As a matter of fact, this statement has been backed by a study carried out by Loughborough University in the U.K.
According to the research, women do need to sleep 20 minutes longer than men. The reason behind this was thought to be because women’s brains works harder compared to men during the day.

Professor Jim Horne, the Director of Loughborough University’s Sleep Research Centre explained, “For women, poor sleep is strongly associated with high levels of psychological distress and greater feelings of hostility, depression and anger.”
He continued, “In contrast, these feelings were not associated with the same degree of sleep disruption in men.”
Horne also mentioned that women tend to face more health issues from lack of sleep than man are called upon to carry out more complicated tasks on a daily basis.
Other than that, women tend to multitask more often and use their brains more strenuously. That means that they take more time to recover, which sleep provides better than any other activity.
“The more of your brain you use during the day, the more of it that needs to recover and, consequently, the more sleep you need,” said Horne.
Horne also did note on one exception, whereby men who have complex jobs which involve many decision making as well as lateral thinking are also tend to need more sleep than the average male.
