1. Make reading a regular habit
Even if it is just a newspaper or magazine, reading is one of the few hobbies that comes with real health benefits such as improving your mind and memory. Instead of scrolling on Facebook or Instagram, why not pick up a book from topics that you like?
2. Hit at least half an hour of exercise a day
Get off the sofa and make a point of working out every day, at least for 30 minutes. Working out early in the morning not only starts your day off strong, it also helps you to feel more pumped up and aid you in maintaining a healthy body.
3. Save up your money
Try apps like T2Expense or Mint.com to manage your income and expenses by checking in on your financial status on a weekly basis. Each time you get your paycheck, the first thing you do is set aside a portion of your earnings (we recommend one-third of your income) to save before taking care of your bills and other necessities.
4. Eat out less, get more into cooking at home
If your New Year’s resolution is to stay fit and healthy, first thing first, eat at home more. Cooking and eating at home is one of the best ways to save money and eat nutritiously. This is because you are actually paying attention to what foods and substances you’re putting into your body. Set a grocery budget and schedule. If you have a 9-5 job, the weekends would be ideal for a well-planned meal prep.
5. Go travel at least once a year
Make the leap and plan the trip you have been dreaming of, even if it is just a weekend to a nearby beach. We all need time away from our work, to refresh our mind. You will see things in a more positive way and you will be more positive. Only when you see the other parts of the world, it makes you appreciate your things back home a lot more.
6. Make the world a better place
Helping people makes you feel good about yourself. You can start by participating in volunteer activities. People who volunteer are happier with their current lives, expect to live longer than the rest of the population and are more optimistic. Acts of kindness will encourage others to do the same thing.
