Sipping on certain herbal teas can help ease uncomfortable symptoms during menstruation For instance, chamomile tea contains glycine, an amino acid that relaxes nerves and muscles and acts like a mild sedative. Hibiscus tea, also known as roselle tea, helps restore hormonal balance, which can help with mood swings, depression, and overeating.

3. Stay away from coffee and alcohol

Drinking too much caffeinated beverages can increase heart rate and cause your blood sugar levels to spike. When you’’e on that caffeine high, you are more likely to be easily annoy and angry. When it starts wear off, your blood sugar levels drop and might cause you to feel upset. If you don’t want to be caught in big emotional roller-coaster during PMS, limit your caffeine and alcohol intake.

A recent study in the journal Reproductive Health found that women given a pill containing a mix of essential fatty acids significantly reduced their PMS symptoms. Another study published in Nutrition Research in 2000 found that women who supplemented their diet with omega-3 fatty acids in fish oils also found relief. Bottom line? Don’t be shy of healthy fats (avocados, salmon, nuts, olive oil) and consider supplementing with fish oil.
