Never underestimate the power of a clean mouth and a great set of teeth to dazzle people with your smile. It’s one of your greatest assets, so why not look after it a little better?
Here are some tips to ensuring you have a clean set of choppers every day, and maybe one day we’ll see you in one of those cheesy mentos ads! (who remembers those?)
Brush your teeth the right way
Sure, we do this every day and at some point the repeated action and routine might seem like enough, but there’s actually a “right” way to brush your teeth. How? Well for starters, get yourself the right toothbrush – soft? medium? hard? – brush 2-3 times a day, and don’t brush too hard. This can damage your gums and ruin your teeth’s outer layer. Also, don’t forget to brush you tongue, change your toothbrush every 3-4 months, and store your toothbrush away from the toilet bowl.
Don’t forget to floss
Brushing your teeth is only half of the job done. Keep a roll of floss handy and clean between your teeth daily. Tooth decaying bacteria can hide in between the tough-to-reach spots that your toothbrush can’t get to.
Rinse with mouth wash too
They say brushing your teeth only gets 25% of the cleaning done, and that’s no surprise considering we have our tongue and a whole lot of other stuff going on in there. Aside from flossing, you should rinse with a mouth wash too. Brush, floss, rinse, repeat. It’ll help with your overall oral hygiene and will definitely keep nasty plaque far away!
Watch out for your gum health too
Just as important as your teeth health are your gums. Watch out for bleeding gums, receding gums, or inflamed gums. If you brush, floss, and rinse regularly, you should be just fine! But when in doubt, please do visit your dentist for consultation.
Bite into crunchy snacks
Did you know chewing hard on fruits and vegetables like apples or carrots produces more saliva? This then helps wash away any bacteria you have in your mouth – it’s natural and easy!
Reduce teeth staining agents for that brighter smile
Coffee, tea, red wine, even smoking can cause stains on your teeth. Nicotine or caffeine. Other culprits include colas and even dark juices. If you find yourself staining your teeth from something you’ve consumed, brush your teeth to avoid it getting in too deep and reduce it from your daily diet.
Fake it with lipstick
Shades like coral or even bright red lipstick will make your teeth appear whiter. If you need to impress, slip some of this on and don’t forget that floss!
