After a hiatus of 5 years, the box-office Chinese martial arts movie, Ip Man makes a triumphant return with its third series, Ip Man 3. Created by the same crew – director Wilson Yip, executive producer Raymond Wong, scriptwriter Edmond Wong, action director Yuen Woo-ping, and starring Donnei Yen and Lynn Xiong, Ip Man 3 also features world boxing champion, Mike Tyson, and a bunch of new faces such as Max Zhang and Karena Ng.
In conjunction with the release of Ip Man 3 in Malaysia cinemas this Dec 24, Raymond Wong together with Donnie Yen and Lynn Xiong have been coming to Kuala Lumpur for a press conference to meet local media friends last Friday.
They were also attending the premiere of the movie at the evening after the press conference, and meeting the fans in Kuala Lumpur and Malacca.
Ip Man 3 is not simply the continuation of a series movie, it also carries out the spirit of Chinese martial art and the quintessence of Chinese culture.
Donnie Yen who played “Ip Man” in the movie re-embarks on full forces, sharpening his Wing Chun skills and losing weight for the last installment of the Ip Man series and very likely his own farewell performance in Kung Fu movies. “Although I present him as another human being, he is in fact more of a spirit that represents every single Chinese. Hope the movie will arouse the patriotic love in all of us”, Donnie said.
The highlights of Ip Man 3 are definitely the battling scenes that will leave you breathless and thrilled. The battling between western boxing and Wing Chun martial arts by Mike Tyson who play an evil boss and Donnie Yen as Ip Man, and the martial arts showdown by Donnie Yen and Maz Zhang are worth the price of admission.
Synopsis
At the end of the 1950’s, Ip Man was finally settled into a stable life with his wife and step son in Hong Kong. The problem arises when a group of gangsters led by Sang try to take over a school property in the neighbourhood and Ip Man decides to lead his students to guard the neighbourhood! Ip Man’s conflict with the gangsters becomes heated and he discovers that the boss behind the takeover is the foreigner Frank.
On the other hand, Ip Man met a father of his son’s schoolmate, Cheung Tin-chi who is also a fellow Wing Chun practitioner. Both of them have a “frenemy” relationship in the movie as Tin-chi claimed himself the “authentic” Wing Chun practitioner, and openly challenges Ip Man to a fight!
