Lunar New Year is the most significant festival for the Chinese people. Travelling thousands of miles to be home, the days of cooking and feasting, and huddling around the dinner table only show that the warmth of our family is what truly comforts us.
And a lot of people crave for Poon Choi, a signature Chinese New Year dish so MON SPACE MULTINATIONAL CORP held a feast of Poon Choi which saw almost a thousand guests, along with a massive lion dance comprising of 80 lions which amped up the festivities. This auspicious event was held on 3 February (7th day of Chinese New Year) 7pm, at the MON SPACE MULTINATIONAL CORP headquarters located at The Earth, Bukit Jalil.
Dato’ Sri Jessy Lai said that the purpose of this banquet is to re-introduce the traditional dish of Poon Choi to the world. “Many youths have lost the chance to learn about traditional Chinese New Year dishes and the meaning behind each dish. If this goes on, our culture is at risk of being lost or forgotten. That’s why events like these are important – Not just to bring back fond memories of the past, but to also give new life to an old tradition.”
This event is quite different from conventional festive gatherings. While MON SPACE MULTINATIONAL CORP maintains the tradition of Poon Choi, there’s also western-style buffet to ensure every attendant enjoys a thoroughly satisfying night.
Dato’ Sri Jessy Lai said this arrangement not only allows for flexibility and variety, it also shows that old traditions can take on new life and stay relevant.
The head chef for this event is Peter Cheah, a culinary master well known throughout Asia, and also the chef in charge of MON SPACE MULTINATIONAL CORP’s record-setting steamboat feast last year.
A fashion show for MON SPACE’s new fashion line MON-J was held as well, featuring Hong Kong artist, Ruco Chan who walked the runway and performed five songs for guests.
