Malaysian Official Designers Association (MODA) celebrated the 10th Anniversary of KLWF 2022 with 10 MODA Designers presenting their creations on the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week runway last week!
The 10 MODA Designers, include Ashely Wong, Melvin Shah, Jimmy Wong, Keith Kee, Key Ng, Shawn Lee, Gillian Hung (MMG), Peter Lum, Syahrir Nurdin, and Tangoo, were invited by Mr. Andrew Tan, the KLFW Founder, to exhibit their creativity and innovations on the prestigious runway of KLFW.
Ashely Wong
Melvin Shah
Melvin Shah is founder and Fashion Designer for Atelier Prive Melson, who specialises in ready to wear clothing line and a freelance fashion consultant. His showpiece is an oversized wide turtleneck top matching short mini skirt in bright yellow lightweight faux sheep fur, paired with high cut boots and little hood cap great for mix and match.
Jimmy Wong
Jimmy Wong created his first own label in 2004, WONG by Jimmy Wong, specially designed for individuals whose like bold pieces, and later, a ready to wear line, DoubleU in 2009.
His showpiece is an amalgamation of his two brands combining bold, unique and eccentric ideas making the piece fun and edgy. The oversized and androgynous look was realised with the idea of layering for tropical-weather with pieces looking good worn together or separately. The highlight is the outerwear constructed from more than 30 neckties, up-cycled from leftover stock from a now-closed necktie shop in Hong Kong. Sustainability, upcycling and repurposing was the inspiration behind this creation.
Keith Kee
Hailed from Penang Island, Keith Kee Couture (KKC) is widely known for using bold colour combinations, and dresses which can be worn in multiple ways among customers. Our designs are mostly simple, yet elegant and sophisticated.
His showpiece was designed as an expression of the raw inner beauty and strong desire of a woman. Nude sequin tulle and nude silk tulle were used to express the purity within. The gown was designed with a mermaid silhouette and embellished with floral lace to accentuate femininity.
Key Ng
Key Ng, recognized as the best Malaysian Fashion Designer, has an acute sense of style, fashion and entrepreneurship.
Shawn Lee
Shawn Lee is a designer who specialises in Custom-made bespoke suits and own a label called MMCLOT.
Gillian Hung (MMG)
Best known as “Mama G”, Gillian Hung, the Fashion Guru has over 30 years of experiences in the fashion industry locally and internationally. Her latest MMG brand signifies your own “Rock Star” as YOU are the “Rock Star“ of yourself. The collection represent Strength, Youth & Individuality – giving you a unique bold personality that SHINES. MMG Collection offers a variety of unisex fashion that serves as a common ground between luxury streetwear and premium fashion. The collection compile into 3 segments– Unisex Streetwear, Hi-Street Denim and Luxury Rock with blings.
Peter Lum
Peter Lum, a renowned name in the fashion industry, through his own label, STYLED BY PETER LUM, reimagining and reinvention of timeless and classic womenswear updated for the modern contemporary woman to look effortlessly chic anytime.
His outfit, La Vie En Rose, shown in a relaxed, flowy two-piece in printed chiffon, allowing the wearer to be floaty and almost veiled in a cloud of air. The wide asymmetrical obi-sash in honey bridal-shantung is to reminder to continue to exercise a little control and restraint in order to keep safe and breathe again.
Syahrir Nurdin
Syahrir Nurdin is a professional Fashion Designer who specialises in creating pieces that are fresh, original and timeless.
14 Stripes is his creation for the 10th Anniversary of KLFW, “I dedicated my design to Malaysia. Inspired by the Stripe of Glory or ‘Jalur Gemilang’, is composed of a field of 14 alternating red and white stripes, crescent and star on a blue ground. 14 Stripes is a powerful symbol used to express patriotism”, says Syahrir.
Tangoo
TANGOO is inspired by heady and exotic mix of multi cultural elements and colourful motifs. The mastermind behind the label, Moses Law believes and draws inspiration from Love, Faith, Self Expression. Ultimately comfort in anything.
His creation is inspired by the legendary tale of mystical Puteri Santubong of Sarawak, Borneo and is brought to life using cotton batik in earth-tones.
