Piloting its first collaboration, BOLON and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Shah Alam crowned the Macramé themed design by UiTM students, Ainun Nursuhaiza, Siti Nur Solihah and Siti Nurin Amila as the grand prize winner in the BOLONxUiTM Window Display Competition with Macramé design which is inspired by macramé patterns and vintage theme.
A total of 12 teams of two students each participated in this inaugural competition developed by Essilor Malaysia for one of its flagship brands, BOLON eyewear. The initiative was to challenge the final students from the Textile department, Faculty of Art & Design to create attractive and enticing window displays for three A-LOOK Eyewear retail outlets set to the theme – Craftsmanship. The shortlisted window display designs are showcased at three selected stores, A-Look Sunway Pyramid, SEEN KLCC and SEEN MyTOWN.
The students’ designs were reviewed by a panel of judges comprising Dato Terry, owner of A-Look Eyewear, Peter Tan, Country Manager of Essilor Singapore & Malaysia, Wong Kok Yoong, Essilor’s Business Development Manager for Singapore & Malaysia and Elliza Hashim, Senior Lecturer of the Textile Department, UiTM Shah Alam.
At the finale, the top three designs were judged based on public voting on A-look eyewear’s Facebook page. The design with the highest number of likes was crowned as the overall winner of the competition, winning themselves the grand prize of RM2,000 cash, together with BOLON products. The first runner-up received a total of RM1,000 cash along with BOLON products and a cash prize of RM500 for the second runner-up, inclusive of BOLON products.
BOLON Window Display Competition’s grand prize winner, Macramé design is inspired by macramé patterns and vintage theme. The idea of macramé knots produces decorative vintage patterns of braiding which showcases the art of using various knots and it is exclusively handmade by the students.
Essilor Malaysia is committed in extending this collaboration to its second year and ensuring the Window Display Competition is carried out annually among the students from local universities.
