It seems like there’s a lot of throwback going on and we’re not talking about our Instagram feed. Designers has been taking a step back as they step forward, referencing styles of the past and to be honest, we’re not mad. Take Carolina Herrera, for example, which slides on with insouciant elegance of New York ’60s styles for its Evening 2018 collection.
Taking a dip into Andy Warhol’s work in The Factory for inspiration, the result is seen in magnificent colours that were primarily used by the artist who spent most of his time at home in high society as well as at the most avant-garde set, playing host to inspirational parties which culminated in some of his best work.
The glamour, the elegance, the diversity – those nights of New York moments captured in what is considered an homage to the eclectic artist and the city that never sleeps. Where there’s bright hues there’s also the play-it-safe black and white and designs that accentuate the waistline and play with hand embroideries, flounces or maribou feathers. The result? Feminine, elegant garments balanced by relaxed lines and casual cuts.
