Following the announcement of their collaboration earlier this year, Northern Irish designer JW Anderson has finally unveiled the capsule collection that he’s been working on for Japanese casual wear retailer UNIQLO. Speaking about the collection, Anderson told Vogue that he designed every single piece based on his own personal preferences.
“I shop at Uniqlo religiously. It’s what I wear every day,” he said at the preview of the collection at Tate Modern. “It’s probably been the most exciting and the most personal collaboration I’ve ever done because it’s the first time I’ve been designing for myself, what I would want to wear.”
Inspired by British heritage garments, Anderson reinvents UNIQLO LifeWear collection with ingenious use of classic tartan prints and Savile Row stripes featuring lightweight puffer jacket, trench coat, shirt, backpack, scarf and more. Elements of his Irish and British upbringing such as Fair Isle and cable knits can be seen in long-sleeve sweaters while rugby stripes are abundant in crew neck versions, drawing inspiration from Anderson’s father and brother who were professional rugby players.
Versatile pieces such as trench coat are created in wearable colours and also tweed, then there are the duffle coat, military sweater, oversized turtleneck, ruffle blouse, cashmere oversized knit dress, denim pants, ruffle wrap skirt, quilted skirt and more for the womenswear range. Innovative and timeless, the conspicuous collaboration is a reflection of both core values of the designer and UNIQLO where quality and function collide.
The JW Anderson for UNIQLO 33-piece range will launch in Malaysia on 22nd September 2017. For more updates, stay tuned on Pamper. My or check out UNIQLO’s official website.
