Hermès, the iconic Parisian Maison, unveils a captivating new chapter in Kuala Lumpur with the grand reopening of its renovated and expanded store in The Gardens Mall, Kuala Lumpur. This second store of the Maison in Malaysia, marking nearly a decade since the original’s opening, offers a spacious and immersive experience that transcends mere shopping.
The store’s design, envisioned by renowned architectural agency RDAI Paris, seamlessly blends the essence of the natural world with traditional Malaysian craftsmanship. The intricate façade, crafted from bamboo and cane, evokes a sense of local heritage, while the natural light and curved walls guide visitors through a journey of discovery across all sixteen Hermès métiers.
Locally sourced materials are utilized throughout the space, adding a touch of authenticity. The sun-drenched color palette, featuring deep yellows, ombrés, and rusts, further enhances the warm and inviting atmosphere. Hand-tufted carpets adorned with pixelated batik prints add a playful touch, while raw silk panels in champagne and deep orange hues lend sophistication to private areas.
Upon entering, visitors are greeted by the world of silk, followed by a perfume and beauty area featuring an ombre lacquered wood backdrop. Homeware collections, leather goods, and equestrian accessories seamlessly flow through the space, connected by a central lounge. The ready-to-wear universe, complete with private fitting rooms, awaits at the back.
The store boasts a curated selection of artwork from the Émile Hermès collection, including graphic paintings by French artist Paul Fleury, alongside contemporary works by French photographer Thierry Ardouin and Polish illustrator Jan Bajtlik. A special window display featuring hand-crafted puppets reimagines the traditional Malaysian theatre form “Wayang Kulit” with a modern twist, echoing the 2024 theme “In the Spirit of the Faubourg.”
