An Exclusive Look At Hermès Latest Fine Jewelry Collection “Enchaînements Libres”

The idea behind Hermès new fine jewellery collection “Enchaînements Libres” was fairly simple, according to Pierre Hardy. “I wanted to pay attention to the chain. Everyone has a chain in their life so everyone understands it and I wanted to switch it as far as possible from its original shape,” the designer said.

Just like the notion of chain reaction whereby one thing initiates the next, only that Hardy wanted to mess with the order and play around with new forms through interlacing links in various shapes and sizes.

The Chaîne d’ancre is one of our personal favourites and it’s easy to see why. Redone in chunky choker style, the piece is in no way subtle with rock crystal wrapped around jumbo-sized links, making it the ultimate statement piece to be seen in. There’s also the slightly oversized Adage, a necklace covered in diamond, a ring and a stick to emulate the idea of a fastener, as well as the Grand Jeté that hangs loosely in different lengths with delicate black jades, pearls and orange sapphires.

“I tried to break the repetition of a chain because I was interested in how the chain can be used to both attach and liberate.” Hardy also professed his love for diamonds saying, “I love the material but I never use a single stone. I like diamonds paved which gives life to jewellery.”

Speaking of the stupendous show choreographed by Christian Rizzo to unveil “Enchaînements Libres” to Paris couture week show-goers, “I used to be a dancer. Dance moves me. I think it’s the most powerful art as feeling is shown through the body and jewellery is best viewed on the body,” the designer added.

Set under the soft, muted glow shifting through the Gaîté Lyrique theatre, the show staged a dance between a couple later joined by a group of ballerinas in black donning the jewels forming a human chain.
