Among all the shows at Paris Fashion Week, one of the many that we’re looking forward to is H&M Studio S/S 2018 collection. Presented in a “see now, buy now” format, the collection embraces Japanase minimalism and quiet grace codes. The Musée des Arts Décoratifs was transformed into a fine, modern Japanese vision brought to life: archetypal Nihon decor, iconic tatami mats and splendid ikebana arrangements. Celebs such as Alexa Chung, Joan Smalls and Charlie Heaton together with influencers with the likes of Jane Chuck and Ashley Lau were treated to a magnificent Japanese dinner before the runway show started.
Both womenswear and menswear feature clean silhouettes with a relaxed vibe and have a touch of workwear influence. The womenswear focuses on head-to-toe prints and bright colours in the form of flowing full-length dresses, easy tunics worn over trousers, utilitarian tailoring and statement knits. Meanwhile, the menswear elevates classic pieces such as the tailored jacket, shirting and the crewneck jumper by playing around with unexpected silhouettes, colour and luxe fabrications.
The label sent a diverse group of models down the runway which includes Adowa Aboah, Amber Valetta, Grace Elisabeth and Edie Campbell. Dance group Strawhatz performed a breathtaking kinetic performance right after, captivating 200 guests in attendance.
“It was exciting to see our strong statement of print and colour with clean lines inspired by Japanese design. Together with the authentic setting, tableware, decorations and other details, there was a quiet grace that really shone through. We can’t wait to see how our customers around the world will be styling their favourite pieces,” said Pernilla Wohlfahrt, H&M’s Design Director.
H&M Studio is the key seasonal collection from H&M with its own dedicated design team. Both the womenswear and menswear that appeared on the catwalk were released online immediately after the show and is readily available at H&M Lot 10 starting from yesterday, March 1st.
