Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) 2021 ended on a high note last weekend, showcasing 48 homegrown designers’ ready-to-wear collections in both digital and physical shows at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. Presented by Lexus Malaysia, Ambank Malaysia, and Samsung Malaysia, 12 of Malaysia’s best fashion designers kicked-off KLFW with HURR.TVon 1 and 2 November while 26 designers presented their ready-to-wear collections from 3 to 7 November at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

As part of KLFW’s initiative to foster a deeper appreciation for the local fashion and textile industry, KLFW revived Thread of Heritage, A Truly Malaysian Textiles Exhibition that paid homage to Malaysia’s lush versatile fabrics, featuring hand-blocked batik designs meticulously curated by Her Majesty, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah. Also part of the exhibition was The Patung Project, a collaboration between Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW), Taylor’s University, and Barbie Mattel that showcased a series of Barbie Dolls dressed in garments based on four artisanal themes: Nyonya Beading, Tekat Embroidery, Calligraphy, and Henna for a truly exciting spectacle.
With homegrown supermodels such as Tini, Amber Chia, Deborah Henry, Nasha Aziz, and Tengku Azura gracing the catwalk for one spectacular finale, as well as supportive partners such as Samsung making a flashy surprise down the runway, it was a week that celebrated homegrown designers, talents, and supporting brands that made it all worthwhile and a truly dazzling spectacle.
