Last month, the innovative eyewear brand ic! berlin hosted a celebrity-studded party in Kuala Lumpur to launch its joint capsule collection with Sebastian Herkner, who was named Designer of the Year at Maison & Objet in Paris 2019, and known as a designer for some of the world’s most recognized interior brands like Thonet and ClassiCon. The collection marks the maiden collaboration of this German designer in the lifestyle and fashion world with eyewear manufacturer ic! berlin.
The ic! berlin x Studio Sebastian Herkner Capsule Collection consists of four unisex models, two prescription glasses and two sunglasses, each available in three different colors. Essential design attributes of this high- end collection are extravagant forms, the skillful use of different materials as well as the patented ic! berlin screwless hinge system, manufactured by hand in Berlin.
The eyewear models of ic! berlin x Studio Sebastian Herkner Capsule Collection are named after iconic locations and buildings in Berlin, which for Mr. Herkner exemplify the German capital and its architectural diversity. The four models are therefore named “Avus”, “Bellevue”, “Hansa” and “Dahlem”.
Model “Believue”, the flagship of the collection, uses an innovative milky acetate front including the bridge with metal rings for the lenses, while sun frame “Avus” in black stands out with its frosted etching on the outer rims of the lenses.
“My design approach is to combine old crafting techniques with new technologies. This perfect synergy is also excellently reflected in ic! berlin itself,” explains the 38-year-old. “The idea behind our joint collection was to showcase diversity and to create different styles, connected by an elegant and modern use of high-quality materials and unexpected surfaces.”
Furthermore, ic! berlin’s Silmo novelties includes twelve new models from the Classic Collection (eight prescription and four sun frames), which impress with their modern, purist design and are all highly wearable. These all-metal frames feature ic! berlin’s signature 6 and 10 mm screwless hinge system and come in exciting new colorways on trend for t he new season.
