Onitsuka Tiger Launches Collaboration Footwear Models with a Sustainable Project Originating in Thailand

Onitsuka Tiger partners with the Doi Tung Development Project, a flagship project of the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage, a non-profit organisation in Thailand, creating collaboration footwear born of an initiative that transcends borders.

This partnership represents both Onitsuka Tiger’s and Doi Tung Development Project’s commitment towards the growing global sustainability movement, as it promises to benefit both the planet and its people.

MEXICO 66™, MEXICO 66™ PARATY and SERRANO™

The textile adopted for the three models – MEXICO 66™, MEXICO 66™ PARATY and SERRANO™ – are based on patterns carefully selected from a range of locally produced traditional fabrics. The core of these shoes is the hand-woven textile that takes a week to produce, from spinning the thread to the appearance of the pattern. Compared to machine-woven fabric, the material used in these products is softer, and the finished designs are more delicate. The red and blue colorways evoke the tricolor color featured in Onitsuka Tiger Stripes.

Thai-exclusive MEXICO 66™ model

The main upper fabric of the Thai-exclusive MEXICO 66™ model is carefully woven at DoiTung using 100% recycled PET thread from plastic bottles. The Thai-exclusive models are in black fabric with Onitsuka Tiger logo embroidered in one model and a tiger pattern in the other. The intricate tiger- patterned fabric compliments the effortlessly chic feel. Red and yellow on the sole are a nod to key colors for DoiTung and Onitsuka Tiger.

The products combine the traditional handiwork of craftsmen in Thailand with its iconic footwear models encapsulating qualities both uniquely Thai and uniquely Onitsuka Tiger. The goal was to seek for a product with a timeless design, durable and comfortable construction, which would be appreciated by the diverse peoples across the globe. All the models are created through environmentally-conscious manufacturing processes, and sustainable materials.

The three collaboration models will be available for purchase via onitsukatiger.com/my/en-my and selected Onitsuka Tiger stores from 24 May 2021.
