Royal Selangor launched its first apparel collection in collaboration with popular local streetwear, Pestle & Mortar Clothing last Friday, 19th January 2018 at the Royal Selangor Flagship store in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. Many people including us, were in love with the 6-piece limited edition capsule collection titled, RSXPMC.
With the establishment of the two brands that are more than a century apart, what drew them together were their similar traits of passion, grit, and entrepreneurship. The RSXPMC limited edition capsule collection features four garments, a tote bag, and a cap that embodies Royal Selangor’s archive and rich history. Each item from the collection has an embedded bespoke Royal Selangor pewter piece.
One of the star pieces from the collection is the all-black Worker Shirt (RM299) that features bespoke pewter buttons by Royal Selangor, that’s limited to 50 pieces worldwide only.
There are also 2 t-shirts in the collection which are the signature Pestle & Mortar Pocket Tee (RM129) that has a graphic print behind that pays tribute to the graphics found on Royal Selangor’s delivery van back in 1962 and Beautifully Crafted white tee (RM129) which has a pestle and mortar depicting a style similar to the illustration of a pewter tea set features on the Royal Selangor’s plastic bags during the 60’s and 70’s.
The RSXPMC collection also has a Heritage Tote Bag (RM100) that features a print of Royal Selangor’s first factory in Setapak during the 1970’s and a Dad Cap (RM129) that has the Pestle & Mortar’s iconic flying mechanic logo in hammered-finish pewter.
Another standout piece is the Tiger Pewter Worker Jacket (RM380) that has stitched on Tiger Pewter touchmark which was the name used before the company was renamed to Selangor Pewter.
“This collaboration with Royal Selangor pewter is special because both PMC & Royal Selangor are homegrown brands that champion the projection of our lifestyle, culture, and homeland. The dedication to our respective crafts transcends the generation gap and in an unprecedented move, we witness the seamless fusion of streetwear culture with luxury lifestyle goods. We are deeply honoured to be working alongside an established Malaysian brand and this is a start of an exciting era for us both,” said Hugh Koh, Group CEO and Co-founder of Pestle & Mortar Clothing.
