Global apparel giant UNIQLO has joined forces with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to launch a special collection of charity T-shirts, offering customers the chance to wear their support for refugees worldwide. The “HOPE AWAY FROM HOME” collection features winning designs from the 2023 Youth with Refugees Art Contest, a platform empowering young artists (aged 10-30) to express solidarity with displaced communities.
Since 2020, the Youth with Refugees Art Contest has provided a platform for young talent to showcase their creativity while raising awareness about the challenges faced by refugees. This year’s contest centred around the theme “Hope Away from Home,” highlighting the importance of inclusion and recognition for those who have fled their homes and seek to rebuild their lives. The winning designs, chosen from over 4,000 entries submitted globally, capture the essence of hope, acceptance, and a brighter future.
Available starting March 24th at UNIQLO stores with UTme! service in 12 countries, including Malaysia, the “HOPE AWAY FROM HOME” collection allows customers to directly contribute to supporting refugees. For each T-shirt purchased, UNIQLO will donate US$3 (approximately MYR14.40) to UNHCR, in addition to a direct contribution of US$100,000 (approximately MYR479,750). Furthermore, UNIQLO will donate an additional 5,000 T-shirts and 1,000 tote bags from the collection to UNHCR, with all proceeds from their internal sale used to support refugee assistance programs.
The “HOPE AWAY FROM HOME” collection features adult sizes XS-XXL (XS and XXL available online only) priced at RM79.90 and children’s sizes priced at RM59.90. In Malaysia, the collection will be available at UNIQLO stores located at Damansara Avenue, Fahrenheit88, The Exchange TRX, Sunway Pyramid, and Queensbay Mall Penang.
