10 tips for what to wear to a fashion show
1. Pay attention to the dress code. The most obvious but sometimes the most overlooked. Read the dress code and don’t doubt yourself. If it says “David Bower Inspired” then put on a loud David Bowie-esque outfit. Don’t second guess yourself and think you’re out of theme or overdressed. In the fashion world, there is no such thing as being overdressed, in fact, you’d rather be looking ace than falling flat.
2. Relevance. Unless the dress code asks you to come in your hip-hop get up, or your go-to 80’s outfit, try to wear something current and relevant that closely resembles the dress code of the night. It’s one thing to wear something outrageously fashionable, but another to be outrageously standing out for all the wrong reasons.
3. Don’t try too hard. Everyone can spot this miles away, so while you’re wearing something that is fashionable and current, be sure to stay true to yourself. Don’t let the outfit wear you, you wear the outfit and when you feel good, you look good.
4. Casual is also chic. Think about black jeans, a quality grey T, black pumps, and maybe a leather jacket on hand. Immediately you’re effortlessly chic and though you may think this is a little casual, there’s something that’s timeless and fashion ready.
5. Not a fan of heels? Wear loafers. If you aren’t going decked out in high heels, try to find a pair of shows that fit the occasion and you can’t go wrong with a pair of loafers.
6. Let your accessories give you the WOW. If you’re wearing something a little plain, then let your accessories give you the WOW factor. Your earrings, your wrist wear, your handbag, belt, jacket, make-up. All of these can take you from drab to fab. In fact, a great bag is all you really need!
7. Find a tailor. This is probably the key to looking great. You need a tailor to help nip and tuck your outfit in all the right places so you’re wearing something that looks like it is designed for you.
8. Think sophistication. This isn’t a nightclub and you’re not out there to attract the opposite sex. It’s a fashion runway so think sophisticated and bring out your inner diva.
9. Have fun. Don’t stick to your normal black outfits, have a bit of fun and bring out your best outfits. The ones that you know are just made for special occasions.
10. If you’re nervous, bring a friend. Nothing like having a fashion-forward friend by your arm, someone who would help guide you through the evening and will even bring you out of your shell!
