This year’s Christmas eve night will be unlike other years since 1977 as it will be graced and shined by a bright full moon, for the first time in almost 40 years. According to NASA, this December’s full moon, known as the “Full Cold Moon“, will reach its peak at 6.11 a.m. EST on Christmas day, and it will not happen again until 2034.
A full moon is normally can be seen on the 14th and 15th of every months in the Chinese lunar calendar, and this year’s Christmas eve and Christmas are coincidentally fall on these two days respectively.
This “Full Cold Moon” on Christmas day coincides with the beginning of winter. The winter solstice of this year, which is the official beginning of winter, occurred yesterday December 22, according to the Chinese lunar calendar.
