The Seoul Fashion Week took place a few weeks ago, and while we weren’t actually present in Korea, we have kept our eyes tuned to some of the fashion updates that have been shared all over the world wide web.
We’ve seen what some of the trends are from the New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week, why not gain inspiration from a place a little closer to home especially considering we have a large K-Pop fan base here in Malaysia.
3 Trends from the Seoul Fashion Week
This year’s trends seem to be a clever blend of styles from Korea and the “Western” world which makes it extra unique. Couple this with elements of K-Pop and you’ve pretty much have Korean fashion that has attracted global attention.
It is exactly the unique and fearless quality of Korean fashion that has so much appeal, they aren’t afraid to be different or have their own style – which is really what fashion should be about.
1. The Hoodie.
The hoodie returned again and again, done up in different ways. It was paired with distressed slate gray suiting or an enormous blue-and-white shag fur at Jarret; at Nohant, it came layered beneath slick wool overcoats and with soft cashmere joggers. Then there was Kye, where designer Kathleen Kye took the trend one step further with a rock ’n’ roll riff on retro unisex streetwear: a ’00s velour tracksuit, consisting of a sapphire sweatshirt and extreme velvet flares, and a ’90s chartreuse slip worn over a vintage band tee. It’s a testament to the hoodie’s eternal appeal—and an impressive attempt by Korean designers to see how far a streetwear basic can go.
2. Elevated Street Fashion.
Rather than try to compete with our well-known Western high-fashion brands, the Koreans seem to focus much of their trend and style on elevated street wear. We’re not talking about the casual street fashion look that many can pull off quite effortlessly these days, we’re talking about street-wear that almost looks high-fashion, but isn’t. Up the notch in terms of style, pattern, layers, and go for colours that POP.
Think fearless. Don’t be so focused on making sure the outfit matches or blends in well. The aim here is to just wear what you feel like and pull it off – but of course making sure you’re wearing brands that scream fashionable street wear.
3. Toddler fashion.
Fashion isn’t only for the adults as evident at Seoul’s Fashion Week. Toddlers gained much attraction when they were seen sporting high fashion outfits or chic street wear. It’s time to start thinking about how you dress your kids!
