The incidences of bullying are noticeably reduced when she entered secondary school. Evita said it was probably because her mother who was a teacher at the school and she felt blessed to have support from her and the other teachers.

“No one teased me and for the first time, I felt like a normal human being. I did feel a little insecure, but when I was 16, I joined a church spiritual camp and that was when I fully realised that my condition should not be an obstruction for me to live life,” Evita recounted during an interview with New Straits Time.

Evita was born with a rare skin condition named ‘Giant Congenital Melanocytic Nevus’, which affects just one in 500,000 people and causes large moles and birth marks to appear on the skin.

At 16, she wanted to have surgery to remove the moles. However doctor warned that the procedure could put her health at risk. Evita said she “just had to accept that this is the body I’ve been given. But now I’m grateful I didn’t change anything.”

Miss Universe Malaysia callbacks are expected happen at the end of July 2017. “I’m just keeping my fingers crossed. If I don’t get through, there’s always another platform,” Evita said positively. She also hopes her story and attitude can inspire others to accept their bodies.
