Fondation L’Oréal Empowers Underprivileged Malaysian Women Through Beauty for a Better Life Programme

The Beauty For A Better Life (BFBL) 2024 programme had 53 graduates, who underwent training in two key beauty fields: professional hairdressing and makeup artistry.

The transformative power of beauty is being harnessed to uplift underprivileged women in Malaysia, thanks to Fondation L’Oréal’s Beauty for a Better Life (BFBL) programme, now in its eighth year. Partnering with WOMEN:girls, the initiative continues to provide a path to empowerment, offering training in professional hairdressing and makeup artistry to women from vulnerable backgrounds.

This year, 53 new participants joined the BFBL programme, which has already seen 249 graduates since its inception in 2016. With an impressive 90% employment rate within three months of graduation, the programme has proven to be a life-changing opportunity for many. Participants receive not only technical skills but also the confidence to build their careers in the beauty industry.

The 2024 BFBL graduates took to the stage to demonstrate their makeup artistry skills.

Tomas Hruska, Managing Director of L’Oréal Malaysia, shared his pride in the programme’s success at the graduation ceremony, emphasizing that Beauty for a Better Life is aligned with L’Oréal’s commitment to creating meaningful change. “We are proud to empower this new class of graduates, who we believe will inspire their communities with the skills they’ve gained,” he said.

This year’s graduates include Vinmalar A/P Rabil, a 20-year-old who overcame financial constraints to pursue her passion for makeup, and Cheong Yi Wen, who found renewed purpose in the programme after overcoming mental health challenges. Additionally, the programme continues to make a lasting impact, with 2022 BFBL graduate Nursyasya Afina binti Suhaimi returning as an educator. Now the owner of two hair salons in Melaka, Nursyasya’s journey has come full circle as she helps mentor the next generation of beauty professionals.

The BFBL programme aims to create lasting societal change by equipping women with the skills they need to succeed, whether as independent beauty entrepreneurs or as professionals in the industry. By providing educational opportunities, mentoring, and job placement support, L’Oréal Malaysia continues to expand the programme’s reach and impact.
