Hong Kong-based pop artiste G.E.M. (Tang Tsz-kei) is the newly-signed-on World Vision 30-Hour Famine Ambassador who will join thousands of young Malaysians at the country’s largest annual fundraising-cum-advocacy campaign against hunger and poverty.
This year’s 30-Hour Famine is “You and I, Rise Up for Children”. Through the event, World Vision Malaysia hopes to raise MYR2.6million which will be channelled to development and poverty-alleviation programmes in Malaysia, India, Myanmar and Lesotho. Participants of the 30-Hour Famine raise funds by pledging to fast for 30 hours.
“I am deeply honoured and super excited to take on this meaningful and important role as World Vision’s 30-Hour Famine Ambassador 2018. It is a great responsibility but the fight against hunger and poverty especially for children is a cause that I feel truly passionate about,” said G.E.M.
In support of World Vision Malaysia, G.E.M. will be taking time to visit World Vision Malaysia’s development programme in Tulid, Sabah, in March. There, she will interact with the children and communities, experience their daily life and see for herself how the international humanitarian and development organisation utilises funds raised to better the lives of the local children and communities. She will be sharing her experience with her broad fan base. G.E.M. will also be present at the 30-Hour Famine Countdown to cheer on participants. The Countdown is scheduled to be held in July 2018 as follows:
Famine Weekend: 21-22 July 2018
Countdown Event: 22 July, 12PM – 4PM
Venue: Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam
