In conjunction with the upcoming Breast Cancer Awareness Month or Pink October, MODA (Malaysian Official Designers Association) is teaming up with beauty conglomerate, Estée Lauder Companies Malaysia, to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer through several interesting activities, with the support of some leading malls, hotels, hair and makeup teams and companies.
Pink Merchandise by MODA’s Designers
16 of MODA’s fashion designers have come together to each create a unique merchandise to be sold at vending machines placed at 4 leading shopping malls in the Klang Valley, namely, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Mid Valley MegaMall, Sunway Pyramid and Avenue K, beginning 1 October 2020. These designers included Ashley@kapas, Brian Khoo, Celest Thoi, Chee of GOCHEEKS, Double U by Jimmy Wong, Ellie Lim, Keith Kee, Key Ng, Kit Woo, Leslie Variyan, Lue Syn, Melinda Looi, Melson Kuala Lumpur, Stephanie van Dalen, Styled by Peter Lum and YULEZA by YouSheng.
The range of pink merchandise includes hair accessories, brooches, lapel pins, scarves, handbag charm and face masks, among others. The 8 vending machines are generously sponsored by Ms. Alanis Chai of YL Creative Vending. Funds raised from the sale of the merchandise would be donated to four organisations namely the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia, Cancer Research Malaysia, College of Radiology Malaysia and National Cancer Society of Malaysia.
Pink Buddies’ Day Out
Set to be held on 3 October 2020 (Saturday), Pink Buddies’ Day Out would be something a little more intimate in celebrating the survivors and their respective buddies who supported them through a most difficult journey. Breast cancer survivors are invited to share their stories and the special person who was with them through it all. The 16 most touching stories will be invited to the Pink Buddies’ Day Out.
The selected pair of winners (a survivor and her buddy) will be treated to a beauty makeover, hair styling by Miko Galére, dressed and accessorised by participating Malaysian designers, professional photography, a video to record the heartwarming stories and memories of the occasion and last but not least a dinner and stay at the luxuriously trendy W Kuala Lumpur await the lucky pairs!
Pink Distance Parade
Pink Distance Parade which will be held on 10 October 2020 (Saturday) is a fun, creative event where the public can show their support by participating in a parade taking place at Pavilion KL. Groups of between 2 to 4 persons each will be expected to walk together in creative pink costumes while respecting the ‘new normal’ practice of wearing facial masks & social distancing. Think of ridiculously hooped skirts, super-extended shoulder details, gigantic hats, or huge shoes, etc, to ensure that each group member stays at least 1-metre from each other. Best costumes will win product hampers generously sponsored by the Estée Lauder Companies Malaysia. Each group that signs up will also receive a goody bag from them as well.
MODA hopes these initiatives would continue to help raise awareness and funds for issues related to breast cancer from research to treatment, aid and support for those whom it touches.
