Have you ever wondered why is it socially accepted for women to kiss each other and even say “I love you” to each other but isn’t socially accepted for men?
Well, scientists claim that women are more likely to be sexually fluid than men. Simply put, women are more open to same-sex hook-ups compared to men.
This is due to evolution historically required women to engage in sexual intercourse with other wives in polygynous marriages.
According to Dr Satoshi Kanazawa, an evolutionary psychologist from Writing in Biological Reviews explains, “The theory suggests that women may not have sexual orientations in the same sense as men do. Rather than being straight or gay, to whom women are attracted may depend largely on the particular partner, their reproductive status, and other circumstances.”
Today, there are way more women had same-sex sexual experience or attraction compared to men. Research has also shown that 1 in 4 heterosexual women had sexual encounter with other woman.
This is probably a no-brainer by now but research has revealed that women are more likely arouse while watching lesbian pornographic materials compared to heterosexual men when watching similar material depicting men.
Some researches came up with a theory stating that in older cultures men had multiple wives and he uses sex between them to reduce tension and form bonds.
Another theory claims that men actually experience similar desire as women towards people of the same gender. However men are less likely to disclose such attraction when they experience it.
Modern day feminist argued that society as well as mass media consistently promotes sexualisation of women, which contributes to the wider sexual arousal responses.
If evolution is the reason why sexual intercourse between women is more accepted, things would have a whole lot of sense. But then again, evolution is a mystery, a change that no one sees.
