IKEA and Finnish design house Marimekko are celebrating the joys of self-care rituals with the new limited-edition collection, BASTUA. The collection comprises products ranging from furniture to glassware and textiles, in vibrant prints and patterns inspired by Nordic nature and wellness.
“BASTUA” is a term used to describe a sauna in Småland, the region in southern Sweden where IKEA was founded. Nordic sauna culture was the starting point for the collaboration that brings together the IKEA home furnishing expertise with Marimekko’s art of printmaking.
The bold and beautiful patterns spotlighted in the collection are reflective of nature and the Finnish landscape. Notably, this marks the first time that Marimekko has designed a set of prints exclusively for a collaboration. One of the focal prints includes large, decorative rhubarb leaves that often grow next to sauna huts in Finland, a motif used in many of the items in the collection including the iconic FRAKTA bag.
The collection consists of a variety of items including robes, towels and sauna buckets that one would traditionally use at the sauna, as well as products to accompany one’s self-care rituals at home – like a floor cushion to help you feel grounded or lighting a candle to fill your space with the scent of elderflower.
The range also features items inspired by Nordic furniture design. Characterized by clean lines and simple constructions, they are perfect for adding that extra Nordic charm to your home. Have a glass of water and be reminded of water ripples in a crystal-clear lake. A classic side table is the perfect accompaniment to the trays and glassware, and for enjoying a snack as you wind down after a hard day’s work. The versatile bench is ideal for moments of relaxation and would be a beautiful addition to any space.
The BASTUA collection will be available at IKEA Damansara, IKEA Cheras and IKEA Batu Kawan from 2 March, and online on IKEA.my starting 6 March. The collection will soon be made available at IKEA Tebrau.
