Travelling can be frustrating if things doesn’t go on the right track. When you’ve got less than an hour to get to the boarding gate, there’s nothing causes more stress than getting held up at airport security. For whatever reason, such as a delayed flight or a forgetting your passport, the relaxing vacation you’ve been planning can be a headache and kick you in the ass if you’re not cautious.

Though some things are not under your control, there’s one thing you have full control over: your attire. If you don’t fancy the thorough patting down, here are a few things you should avoid wearing so you can quickly get to your gate faster and with less hassle.

1. Excessive jewelry. A small pair of stud earrings or a delicate necklace might be able to pass through the metal detector but hefty metal bracelets and necklaces might not. It’s advisable to put away your layered bangles and necklaces and rings for now.

2. Bobby pins. According to former Transportation Security Administration agent Kimberly Pruitt, too many bobby pins will set off the metal detector alarm.

3. Maxi dresses and skirts. We have been told to wear simple and comfortable clothing, but maxi dresses and skirts are exception at this case. Clothing that significantly bulks up your frame will raise warning flags.

4. Fancy shoes. Show up to the airport with a pair of slip-on shoes that come off easily, such as a classic ballet flats or oxfords. Avoid heels, lace-up ballerinas, or knee-high buckled sandals, no matter how pretty those shoes are.

5. Cargo pants. Cargo pants are very handy during vacation but they aren’t very TSA friendly. The garment almost always set off an alarm because of the metal snaps on the pockets. The assumption is that you’re hiding something, but even if you aren’t. Once there was a man tried to smuggle fish through airport. He got busted when water started dripping from the pockets of his cargo pants.
