March is an exciting month for art lovers in Hong Kong, as the city welcomes the crème de la crème of talents in the local and international art scene for a slew of exhibitions, gallery showcases and curatorial workshops. Whether you are an art enthusiast or even if you cannot tell a Monet from a Van Gogh, here is a quick guide to help you navigate the complete gamut of artsy offerings!
- March 18 to 26: HKwalls
HKwalls returns this March for a nine-day celebration of street art and creative collaboration in the industrial district of Wong Chuk Hang. From March 18 to 26, the festival will engage the public with an incredible line-up of live mural paintings, a print exhibition featuring the artists and many more.
- March 23 to 25: Art Basel Hong Kong
From March 23 to 25, Art Basel Hong Kong will celebrate its fifth year with a wide array of both established and emerging artists and galleries. Art Basel’s Hong Kong show in 2017 will feature 242 premier galleries from 34 countries and territories. Art Basel in Hong Kong is an unparalleled showcase for art from Asia and the Asia Pacific region, with half of the participating galleries having exhibiting spaces in these terrains.
- March 24 to 26: Harbour Art Fair
From March 24 to 26, during the week of Art Basel Hong Kong and Art Central, Harbour City presents the Harbour Art Fair – a new hotel art fair focusing on contemporary artworks from emerging Asian galleries – at the 5-star Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel. The “Harbour Art Fair” will be exhibiting more than 50 emerging Korean galleries and over a hundred art works.
- March 7 to 28: “Art in Life” Special Exhibitions
“Art in Life” Special Exhibitions at Harbour City will feature four Korean artists’ solo exhibitions at Harbour City’s shopping mall and public space from March 7 to 28.
- March 21 to 25: Art Central
Art Central will return from March 21 to 25 (VIP preview & First Night 20 March). Expect a huge array of emerging and mid-career artists on show as well as some of the top galleries in Hong Kong and Asia – there will be more than 100 exhibitors this year!
- Now until March 18: Hong Kong Arts Festival
From gripping experimental dance pieces and riveting Cantonese opera to majestic classical works and sombre stage performance, the festival features over 1,600 outstanding international and local artists in 129 performances.
