Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) ranks amongst the 12 most beautiful airports in the world. The list was put together recently by Curbed, an American based real-estate website.
Designed by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa, KLIA is located in Sepang, Selangor, around 50km from the city of Kuala Lumpur. Kurokawa designed the airport with a large shell-shaped roof that incorporates Islamic-style, anchored by massive columns.
“Made with sleek stainless steel, the roof is also reminiscent of a common tree in the Malaysian rainforest, and the lights on the canopy represent the filtered sun that shines between leaves,” Curbed describes. Inside, the airport also features a series of prayer rooms throughout.
Besides KLIA, in their pick of top 12 most beautiful airports in the world, Curbed listed Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Azerbaijan’s, Madrid Barajas International Airport in Spain, Kansai International Airport in Japan, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, Marrakech Menara Airport in Morocco, Pulkovo Airport in Russia, Kutaisi International Airport in Georgia, Denver International Airport in the US, and Queen Alia International Airport in Jordan.
The other two airports are China, namely Beijing Capital International Airport, and Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport.
