LOEWE Celebrates the Year of the Snake with Cloisonné-Inspired Collection

This Lunar New Year, LOEWE pays homage to Chinese craftsmanship with its Spring Awakening: Dance of the Snake capsule collection. Drawing inspiration from cloisonné, an ancient decorative enamel technique known for its vibrant colours and intricate patterns, the collection showcases the brand’s fusion of tradition and modernity.

LOEWE collaborated with Xiong Songtao, a Master of Chinese Arts and Crafts, to create standout pieces, including a Nest Bag with snake-head and lotus cloisonné details, as well as pendants featuring auspicious snake, monkey, and cloud motifs.

This craftsmanship extends to ready-to-wear items, shoes, and special-edition bags, such as clutch designs shaped like coiled snakes and clouds. Iconic pieces like the Puzzle and Pebble Bucket bags are adorned with 3D cloud patterns and jewellery-inspired snake chains.

Accompanying the collection is a short film, Spring Awakening: Dance of the Snake, celebrating renewal and unity. The film stars renowned dancer Xie Xin and her troupe performing against a backdrop of traditional Chinese crafts, including kite-making and shadow puppetry. It tells the story of a lonely snake embraced by forest creatures to welcome the arrival of spring. Shadow puppets were created by artist Danno, while snake props were crafted by Zhang Xiaodong, a master of Weifang kite-making, recognised as part of China’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage project.

This collection underscores LOEWE’s commitment to preserving traditional crafts while reinterpreting them for a contemporary audience. The Spring Awakening capsule is now available in select LOEWE boutiques and online, offering a perfect blend of cultural heritage and modern design for the Year of the Snake.
